LAHORE: The highly anticipated tour of Zimbabwe continues on Sunday as Pakistan take on the visitors in the second T20 of the two-match series.
Pakistan won the first match by five wickets to go 1-0 up against Zimbabwe, courtesy Mukhtar Ahmed’s blistering 83-run knock while chasing a hefty target of 173.
Pakistan team coach Waqar Younis was ecstatic to see the team play at home.
“It’s always good to play in front of the home crowd and winning the game is like icing on the cake,” said Waqar, who coached for the first time in a match in Pakistan.
“Playing on home soil in front of our own people gives you different feelings.”
Meanwhile. T20 captain Shahid Afridi said Pakistan had sent a message to the world.
“It is because of our crowd that we have sent a message to the world that Pakistan is a cricketing nation. We were missing cricket. Our talent was missing cricket in Pakistan. Our cricket board will try to bring more cricket in Pakistan.”
Elton Chigumbura, the Zimbabwe captain, also praised the Pakistani supporters.
“Its been a good journey in Pakistan. Supporters were good. Hopefully the guys will cherish this series.”
Hammad Azam, Nauman Anwar and Rizwan Ahmed are likely to replace Bilawal Bhatti, Muhammad Hafeez and Sarfraz Ahmed, sources say.
The stadium is being filled with spectators and the players are out in the field to warm up before the match.
